The Friends of the Library meets every third Monday at 11:00am in the Hillstown Room.

Meetings for 2010 are:

  • August 16
  • September 20
  • October 18
  • November 15
  • December 20
The Library is closed on Mondays, but we still hold our meetings there. Do join us at any time!

Book Sale

We are starting to collect books for the 2011 Book Sale which will be held during Celebrate Wilton next spring. There is a collection box in the foyer. While we cannot accept Reader’s Digest, text books or encyclopedias, we’ll gladly accept your gently used books for the sale.

We also need volunteers to sort and transport books. If you would like to help, stop by the front desk and ask them to place your contact information in the “Friends Folder”. Thanks!

Swing into Fall

The Friends group is supporting the Trustees of the Library with their Swing into Fall event on September 10, 2010 at Curtis Farm here in Wilton. This event is an evening of chocolate, swing music, and dancing under the start with the Temple Dance Band.

We need volunteers who can provide delicious chocolate treats. Do you have a recipe to die for! Or might you want to purchase chocolate goodies for the event? If you would like to help, stop by the front desk and ask them to place your contact information in the “Friends Folder”. Thanks!

FRIENDS AND VOLUNTEERS
The Friends of the Wilton Library is a volunteer organization to further community awareness of the functions, resources, services and needs of the library, and to foster interaction between our library and the residents of Wilton. It provides a source of volunteers to help the Director and her staff in many different capacities and funding for special items that are not in the operating budget.

Why join the friends?

Because your membership can make a real contribution to our library services and facilities, and can make a great library even greater by serving more people in more ways.

Member Dues: Individual Member $10.00. Checks should be made payable to the Friends of the Wilton Library.

What do the Volunteers do?

Some Friends are Volunteers, but some Friends support the library through their membership.

We have some members who:
  • give Library tours
  • deliver and pick up "books-to-go" items for patrons who are unable to get to the library
  • keep the planters full of seasonal plants and flowers
  • work the circulation desk and volunteer once a week for a two-hour slot
  • help coordinate area artist exhibits and author readings
  • help with processing books: typing labels, adding stickers, covering the books with laminate material
  • represent the library at library sponsored events
  • plan and organize the Speaker Series
  • help patrons learn basic computer skills

How does your membership help?
By providing funds for additional items that are not in the library's operating budget, such as:
  • fund special events in conjunction with children's programming
  • fund additional magazine and newspaper subscriptions
  • underwrite passes to museums for the community to enjoy
